In Conversation with Jess Body, Women’s Wellness and Sexual Healing Guide
What are the key moments in your life that have led to who and where you are today?
Women’s health and wellness has been my works calling for 17 years already and it always keeps me moving and on my toes. A sister and I started a Woman’s circle in Dubai 5 years ago and this work has been profound on many levels.
Working with so many different cultures and realities has been an incredible way to see the world.
Last year I moved out of the city and into nature after living in high rises for 14 years and a fast paced lifestyle. My hormones became imbalanced and my body took me on a new journey which first led me to Medicine Festival in England, then on to Bali where I studied and practiced Tantra for 7 months and eventually to New Zealand. It was such a deep process of surrender, emotional healing, release and realignment to my feminine body and how she wants to live.
Even after all these years of this work, things like this happen and it blows you away! Our bodies are so wise and intelligent and we can really benefit from and learn so much through listening and aligning to our inner source.
Tell us about ‘Womb Wisdom’, your upcoming online workshop. What would women be empowered to know about their womb?
Womb Wisdom is about sharing wisdom, knowledge and practices that help women live, work and play in alignment with their feminine body. It gives a woman the space to heal her body and reconstruct her life in a way that supports her best health and nervous system. It rejuvenates and empowers her creativity, her sensual aliveness which reveals her healing gifts. It empowers her to uphold nourishing relationships and heal from relational wounding through honouring her self worth and her boundaries. It shines a light on how to create a balanced work—life flow and how to live/play and work in alignment with her natural rhythms. It’s work that supports and embraces a woman to stay in her heart and shine powerfully as the radiant Goddess she is.
What have you learned about regularly communing vulnerably with a group of women through the women’s circles you’ve run over the past 5 years?
Women gathering ceremonially and with intention is a part of our healthcare system. Many things in our life are taken care of when this level of support is in place. Every day is a school day and every circle brings unique learnings and energy for us all. We are all mirrors and we learn so much together.
When a woman has this level of support available to her on a regular basis, she is much more likely to thrive. It’s bringing it back to the roots, the ancient ways which are full of wisdom and serve on all levels.
What was your journey to and through awakening the power of your femininity and learning about women’s wellness on all levels—mind, emotional, body, spirit, community?
I grew up not feeling safe to be a girl. I didn't feel safe to be a woman either later on. When I was younger I was more of a tomboy and I felt safer and more accepted there. I always loved dancing and art and moving my body since my earliest memories and I feel that was my way to connect with my femininity at a younger age.
Later on in my late teens I started embracing my femininity more but still had some years to travel until I dove deeper. It was through my yogic journey and my first Ayahuasca experience where I received a womb healing that the doors opened for me in that regard. I kept studying with the plants and attending Women's Circles and this showed me a new way of life and much of the teachings we explore together through my work.
The word embodiment has become a la mode recently. What does this actually mean and why is it important?
Embodiment is a part of the integration system. It takes learned teachings into your body and into your life so that it becomes a part of your expression and way of being.
What is an embodiment practice people could introduce into their lives?
After meditation, put on music that invites you to move your body in a way that reflects the energy you wish to be, close your eyes, breathe, sigh… feel yourself, feel the music and move your body allowing everything that came to you to land and settle into your cells. Feel the energy move through you as you become one.
What is a current thread of inquiry you’re following? What are you learning?
I’m listening and tuning in with what women around me are saying.. Wherever I am, I love to listen and hear what women of that country / city / space are journeying with. I learn so much through listening to others.
Can you share a challenge you’ve experienced that has led to a gift?
The hormone journey. That was challenging to go through AND I am deeply grateful because it reconstructed my life to live in a much healthier, happier and harmonious way. It’s a deep one and well worth it!
What is a piece of wisdom guiding you at the moment?
What breaks your heart, fixes your vision.
Make a wish.
I wish for all beings to live in peace, love and happiness. I wish for all beings to be able to have a conversation with themself about what truly brings this to them.
What are 1 - 5 books that have changed your life / you would recommend to others?
The Folk of the Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. As a child these tales of adventure showed me there is much more to this reality than meets the eye and to stay adventurous and creative.
